City Updates
Sport Waitākere is now Tuia Waitākere!
After 30 years of keeping us moving, our local legends have a fresh name and a bigger mission.
The New Name: Sport Waitākere has officially rebranded to Tuia Waitākere. The name was developed with mana whenua Te Kawerau ā Maki. Tuia means The word means to weave, bind, or bring together.
More Than Just Sport: While they still love their sports, the team now focuses on everything that makes us well, including arts, culture, and general movement.
Community First: Their goal is to back local leaders and ideas where people already hang out, like schools, clubs, and churches.
Who they are: Tuia Waitākere designs and funds community-led movement through programs like Healthy Active Learning in West Auckland schools, the Tū Manawa grant for local play projects
